The Amazing Hemsleys

Today was the perfect day for a photoshoot - and the perfect way to send off this lovely family. Matt and Kim Hemsley are packing up their gorgeous little family and heading to DC for their next great adventure. They are planting a church and I couldn't be more excited for them. I know they will be used greatly and will impact DC for the Kingdom. You guys are loved and will be missed! Here's a little sneak peek of what we did today :)

I cannot believe it's been a year almost to the day since my last post!! Wow. I guess you can see where my focus has been - or NOT been rather. Maybe it's because of autumn, maybe it's because... well i have no idea why else i would suddenly be refocused on creative things. So here I am, after quite a posting hiatus, and the plan is to post a few images from each event from the last year. It's a lot, so it'll take a while to get them all posted, but I'm gonna try anyway. Here's to catching up!

after a bit of a sleepy start early this morning, miles and max proved to be up for jumping off almost anything, climbing anything and enduring ALLLLmost anything that was asked of them for our photo shoot. their lovely mom, Sandy called me a few days ago wanting to schedule a last minute shoot since the boys hadn't had pictures done since they were kids. I'm so happy she did. It was an adventure, to say the least, and i am so happy with the outcome. hey Myles, you just may have a future in reflector art. :) it was a pleasure meeting you guys and thanks for looking at the camera... eventually :)

Passion, Poignant dates and Producers

It's been such a very long time since i've written or posted any pictures. so i guess it's about time to do just that. It's May 31. Lots of land marks for this date, one of which is my parent's anniversary. I thank God that I have an example of what it is to fight through insurmountable opposition and come out on the other side still unified, and still in love. There are other things that this day marks... but i'll just keep those to myself, and just say i also thank God for his undying mercy and love that saves us all from the pit of our own destruction.

Photography has been in a sleepy little lull as of late, which is more than ok with me. It seems I am powerless to focus on more than one passion at a time and I'm thrilled to say Elijah and I are back in the studio working on finishing up my project. It looks like it will in fact be a full length album even though we thought we'd have to cut some of the material because it was just so dated now. Only one song ended up hitting the cutting room floor, which was about an ex-boyfriend anyway and honestly, i just didn't have it in me to sing it anymore. Some songs just need to die with the renewal of your heart. So, we have 10, one of which is a cover which i may end up putting to a vote to get general consensus as to whether it should be done. My newest song, Sparrow is making the cut, taking the place of one of my favorite songs which will appear on my next album - and ooooh boy am i excited about that one!! You'll just have to wait and see. MAN, it's gonna be so great.

I am embracing my roots. i am finding that i can barely control my southern accent anymore - proof being that elijah actually stopped me and asked me to repeat what i had said the other day because he couldn't understand me! hahahahaha - oh well, why fight it? It just goes along with the next generation of my music. I'm in probably the 4th generation of my songwriting which is embracing my blue grass/country western roots - which i consequently used to fight tooth and nail to get away from... but never fear, when you mix my roots with the punk rock/hard core roots of my most excellent producer, what you get is glorious indeed. But first, Cession Volition - my first full length album... after 9 years of waiting, is in REALITY: coming soon.

Spring Fashion

Today is Chole's spring picture day. She was so excited. She came home boasting a big round sticker with the announcement that "Tomorrow is Picture Day!" and she wanted to wear her easter dress her Grandma sent her... I understand why, it's a gorgeous dress. Pink and silky with a pink sash down the back, little pink pearl detail on the boddice complete with an intricate woven pattern of silken material fit for a princess. It even comes with a pink hat and a tiny pink purse. (Can you guess what her favorite color is?) However to her grave dissapointment this morning I announced that no such dress would be worn to school, even if it was picture day, that she would have to save it for Easter. So the journey toward compromise began. How about this shirt with that skirt.. oh, it's too big still... well, how about these jeans with that shirt and your boots... pants too small... my, my i think my little girl is growning up and i'm missing it! One thing is for sure is that she has an absolute idea about what "goes" in all of her 6 years of fashion experience. We finally came to an agreement on a brown shirt with a lovely plaid undershirt, brown pants and a soft blue jacket... and of course her boots (since dress code is out the window today.) She was completely satisfied with the choices and pranced around sporting her spring fashions (thank Heavens!) and even let me dote over her hair. She was a vision when she left this morning (even if it did take some finaglin) and I can't believe what a little grownup she is becoming. Yeah I know she's only 6, but good Lord... she's SIX! I never dreamed I would have a little human being in my care, much less two, that are so beautiful and thoughtful and (even if very opinionated), very sweet.

Here's my little dove. I'll have to get her picture from today and put it up as well... Sigh, she's growing up so fast!

Alas... the day did not turn out as well as I had hoped. Indeed, it was a sad day. I promised her a whole photoshoot all of her own, with 5 pretty dress changes and the works. It pepped her up a bit... here's the only picture i could get out of her. Evidently the whole Kindegarden class was dressed better than she was... so she reported.

ok, so Asa isn't a pot of peas, but he WAS nine days old when i drove up to Carey and Justin's house to capture this little man in all his newness and naked infant glory. There was such peace and gorgeous light in their home that sunny afternoon. I can't wait till this little man is running around so i can get some shots of him on that awesome old pickup truck in the driveway. but i'm getting ahead of myself.

Carey & Jusitn, i just want to tell you what an honor and a gift it has been for me to capture these most precious moments of Asa crossing over into the open air. What redemption this little man is to all the loss and struggle you guys have been through over the years. I thank our Heavenly Papa for his wonderful love, how he restores us and gives us new life and mercy that is fresh every morning. I love you guys, thank you for having me be a part of Asa's journey.

Birth Day!

February 19th 2010 was the perfect day for little Asa James to come on the scene. I cried all the way home because I was so blessed to have been witness to such an intimately, powerful occasion. Here are just a few of the 300+ I ended up with. Thank you Carey and Justin for having me come share in your day - i love you guys and your baby is perfect in every way.

so i have to admit... holding other people's babies never gave me the fever. you ladies know what i mean. those little fingers and toes, that little head with the fuzzy hair - that little bundled up sweetness in your arms makes you start craving another little bundle of your own.. the fever...

nope, not me.. I was fever proof that is until... Jonah. He was a little breath of sweetness that I found in my arms that made my heart begin to yearn again. fortunately the fever only lasted a week, but this little one is still one of the sweetest i've seen ever. The Rowe Family

My darling friends. I went to school with Chyela and we lived together in a building right off campus that dated back to the 1800's... huge windows that overlooked the canopied streets, hardwood floors, old piping that made terrible noises late at night.. it was there I learned the beauty of loose tea - english style with milk poured in the cup first, plus sugar for me... Chyela was so beautiful with black hair down to her waist that swirled around her when she danced - i used to sit on the edge of the tub while she put on her makeup or on her bed and sing songs i had written, playing my guitar. I can honestly say i grew up a little more and learned priceless life lessons about loving others by knowing her. i love my friend dearly.

Today she lives in a beautiful old house (true to her style) with her husband (who does English tea with civilation and perfection - he is English after-all) and her three adorable children. Jonah is the newest addition, which was the reason for my visit - Newborn picutres soon to follow. Family pictures always stretch me - and i think i learned yet another lesson through this shoot. Relax. Let the spirit of each family shine through the lens - I don't have to conjure up anything or create an atmosphere with a family... i just have to pay attention and capture the love and beauty that is all ready present. Thank you guys for having me come document your family at this time of your lives. I love you guys.

The Sneakiest of Peeks

Ok, so even after all my hard trying, i am just now getting the teeniest of sneak peeks up. Here's one of the lovely Lee Family, the rest will be done VERY soon. October pretty much kicked my booty with all the shoots i had - I can't think of a better problem to have!!

These guys are ambitious, adventurous, aesthetically pleasing and sweet. :0) The day we ventured off to a park in Davidson, I was actually having a pretty hard day, but by the end of the shoot my spirits were in the clouds. I'm so blessed to have a job that makes me happier than i was before i went to work! Thanks for everything, guys!

We were storm dodgers - just two steps ahead of the rain all day. We found little pockets and windows in the clouds and wow what results! Around the Homefront

So we've had a little drama around the mosely home for a couple weeks... our sweet little lady was hit by the car in the driveway. now i won't say elijah tried to hit her, but he was in the habit of not slowing down, to not teach her that she could lollygag in front of a moving car... well... a broken pelvis and a round of pain pills, "bed rest" and antibiotics later, i hope she has learned her lesson.

I've never seen such a gentle dog... generally i'm afraid of big dogs, but when lady was 10 weeks old and i took her to the vet for the first time, she was so calm i really wondered if there wasn't something wrong with her... but no, she's just that laid back... a true advantage when you have to keep a broken dog in the house for a long time with your five and three year old running around her head! anyway, this post is to say that a few days ago she went out and was making it around so well that we were able to leave her outside and she is doing just fine... Horray for mending. God is so smart... to make bodies heal.. here's our sweet little lady.

Even though I am convinced I was struck down with vertigo (i'm still dizzy a week later!!!) because I shot Kira and Brandon's wedding on a boat, I would do it over 1,000 times more. The weather couldn't have been more perfect and (as far as I could tell) everything went off without a hitch - well except for the hitching the lovely couple did! haha, yes - wow, i'm corny... probably b/c it's 3am... i just wanted to get these posted for a little sneak peak before too much more time passes. When we were kids, all the family got together for Christmas... we would meet over at Grandma Sallie's - our great grandma's house... we'd eat a fabulous meal of turkey, sweet potato casserole with a sugary pecan topping, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, roasted chicken.... and always, always cherry cheesecake and pecan pie... (hmmm, i think i'm hungry) We'd open presents and Grandma would read the Christmas Story out of Luke, we'd open presents and i remember taking candles and all the cousins singing christmas carols door to door around the family land... things were simple then. those are the strongest memories in my mind of my extended family. Shane is part of those memories, and now he's all grown up with a lovely wife and a brand new baby boy... and even though he's still 8 in my mind, he has grown into quite a man. I'm so happy for you, Shane - you have a lovely family. I'm so blessed to have gotten to come capture your little man at just 4 days old. I love you. I hope to see you this Christmas.

Today is perfect. sunny and warm after a day and night of rain... i finally got my new camera - and soon will have a lens to match, but heather was gracious enough to let me borrow some lenses so i could try out this wondrous new (to me) piece of technology that is full frame. i can't wait to shoot these weddings I have this summer! i just can't believe how much better my pics are turning out already. here's some snap shots of my babies, oh - and my lindsey...

ok, so maybe it's been more than a few days. i took a little trip to Oklahoma with Elijah to record Oral Roberts University's latest worship album. I'll post some of those pics when i get them sorted out. Life is interesting these days - there is more going on than I can possibly process, so lots of journaling. Ahhhh, yeah, it feels good to journal. I always loved to share my journal entries with my friends (when i wrote all the time) so I will just share pictures now that they seem to take up my time when i'm not cleaning up after my 2 year old. :) Here's some of my favorites from the last family shoot.
